In His inscrutable wisdom, the Almighty God allowed the Parkway School Board to pass a morally revolting new sex education curriculum1 last night by a vote of 4 (for) and 3 (against). Please join me in weeping for the 17,000+ souls (students) in Parkway’s 28 schools, including those who might be adversely affected through them, as a result of their subjection to this wicked worldview of human sexuality and relationships.
Breaking the news to you this way – in the light of God’s character as God2 - provides us the best framework by which we can process all our emotions and thoughts at a time like this. Noting that God allowed the curriculum to pass does not mean it's a good thing, nor does it mean that God is the author of sin. In the most basic sense, it simply and rightly acknowledges God as The Almighty and Living God, and that He rules His universe with complete sovereignty and holy goodness. It also reminds those who trust in Him through Jesus Christ that His purposes are immutably good and right, though we, at times, may not understand exactly what that means in our present circumstances.
O Lord GOD, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours? Deuteronomy 3:24
Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps. Psalm 135:6
At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High [God], and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, "What have you done?" Daniel 4:34-35
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

1 This new sex education curriculum breaks Missouri law - a lawsuit from The Liberty Counsel is pending. Among other evils, it teaches students that gender is not determined by biology, that anal and oral sex are pleasurable and safer alternatives to vaginal sex (e.g., you can’t get pregnant), that abortion-causing drugs are a viable solution to a pregnancy scare (re: so-called “emergency contraception”), that parental involvement in sexual decision-making is optional (including advising ways to avoid their involvement at all), and that LGBT lifestyles are normal and healthy. The curriculum takes effect in fall, 2016, for students from first through twelfth grade.
2 I am finding the Westminster Confession of Faith especially helpful as I work through God’s character as I process my own emotions and thoughts in the wake of this decision. Chapters 2, 3, and 5 have been especially helpful. The Westminster Confession is the doctrinal standard of the Presbyterian Church in America (where I hold my ordination). It is NOT inspired, infallible, or inerrant like the Word of God. We (and I) believe it “contains the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures,” while not supplanting the singular authority of the Scriptures as the final word on things pertaining to faith.
