Get Encouraged in the Gospel
Why are you freaking out? About anything? Is our God not seated in heaven on a kingly throne? Is He not The Creator and sustainer of all things? Has He not set His indelible affection on you in Christ Jesus? Has our God suddenly become impotent or disinterested? Has He departed to some far away galaxy for summer vacation? Why, while under God’s fatherly and all-powerful watch, do you shake and convulse violently over the rise and fall of nations, economies, churches, ministries, families, and more? Is it that you’ve adopted the panic-prone attitude of the evening news casters? Have you been sitting at the feet of Chicken Little? Have you forgotten God’s words in Psalm 46, “Relax and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress”? Perhaps God’s words in John 14 have slipped your mind, “Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in Me”? How, right now, can your soul-tremors cease by simply remembering this God? How can you repent of your forgetting or trying to shrink Him? How can you re-rejoice in His unstoppable power and His ravishing affection toward you in Christ? Then, how can you heartily engage every monster and trail today, but without the outlandish panic that characterizes those who do not know The Living God?
