If you trust in Jesus Christ for eternal life, you are a “golden pipe.” The Puritans coined this beautiful label to describe Christ-trusters as valuable conduits of His grace and truth to a dying world. Is this the way you see yourself, your Life Team, and your church? Or, do you see yourself as a rusty steel oil derrick – pumping away, laboring and sweating and wearing yourself out to produce spiritual results for God? Being gospel-driven means, in part, that we embrace our identity as golden pipes that bear fruit instead of producing it. If we see ourselves as producers – the origin of spiritual fruit - we deny the gospel and its Author who alone is the origin of all truly good things. We also wear ourselves out for fruit that does not last in the end. But if we see ourselves as bearers – the conduits of someone else’s fruit – we confirm the gospel, enjoy its Author, and enjoy a heart of freedom and peace. What a privilege to have been declared golden pipes in Christ! We are valuable conduits/bearers of God’s grace and truth! As such, our blessed task is to enjoy Christ, let Him ravish us with His love, yield our will to His, make ourselves joyfully available to Him, and to receive His good gifts for our own and others’ joy.
